What's that black wire doing in with the red on the solenoid? The schematic only shows the red wire. Did someone do the start relay mod on this machine? Where does the other end of the black wire go?

darkminion, I'll give it a try. Like I said, this ran until my friend pulled his steering column out to do some repairs. He pulled this wire off somewhere when he did but didn't see where. I don't see a black wire coming from the solenoid in any pics I've seen, or on the schematic. This is definitely a monkey rigging by the previous owner(s).

Oak, if I knew that I wouldn't be asking. Yeah, it's definitely a crap rigging! I wish owners would do 'proper' repairs; it saves a lot of headaches down the road.

The harness IS molested somewhere, that's the problem! There's a wire coming from the solenoid that shouldn't be! It possibly plugs into a switch somewhere to bypass something, otherwise it wouldn't connect to the solenoid. It doesn't have a factory end, it's an add-on by Mickey Mouse! Wherever it goes it's crucial to starting the motor. I believe darkminion might be onto to something with one of the safety switches. If it was stuck in one of them and got pulled out accidently when the steering column was messed with, then that would affect the motor being allowed to start. I can tell the ignition switch wiring was molested at one time because all of the wiring coming from the switch are the wrong colors for the first 6", then they're spliced into the correct wiring. Somewhere along the line something happened there, but like I keep saying, It ran before he started on the column repair, so the ignition switch has nothing to do with this at this point. I do have a multimeter, and a circuit tester.

Since it appears that you have a cobbled up mess, IF YOU LIKE, I can send you the Cub Cadet Wiring Diagram, so you can start to trace down the problem(s).
Looks like you have a chore ahead of you.

After reading this it makes me curious when the key is on if there
is 12 volts to the mystery wire or is it dead. If it has voltage I would reconnect it to something hot. If not ground it. Might help to know. Ken |
