I know that but I'm not that good using a voltmeter, don't worry, I'll figure it out.

Nick, with all the other stuff you learned how to do on Cubs don't be intimidated by the electrical side. Time to read, go to Youtube or check with us. You have impressed me with all that you can do at an early age. Keep up the good work and you'll have that 13 fin charging in no time.

Nick - I'm fairly new to the board so I don't really know, but I gather that you might be a young man, maybe of high school age? No matter! You can learn electrical just as how you have learned other things about your Cub. No question is too dumb, we will help you. You are probably very good with computers and most of us old guys are just learning! Get on the web and Google search "basic DC circuits" and "using a voltmeter" then do a little reading. You may hear someone mention a multi-meter. That's just a hand held testing tool that has a voltmeter and several other functions all in one box. If you have access to one, post a picture of it and we can help you figure it out. We all were your age at one time and had to learn this stuff too. Best way to learn is by doing it!

Quick test:
Start it up and run half throttle, unhook the battery and if it's charging it will stay running

Never thought to check, I'm new to the electrical side of these as well. When it's charging it moves the right way, and when I'm drawing from it it moves the correct way as well. I pulled it apart and cleaned the contacts up once to see what that would do, but it made no difference. I hadn't considered it being hooked up backwards, I didn't realize it might do that. I'll switch it up!

Well I disconnected it and after a minute or so it shut off suddenly, so it is discharging.

Did you have it revved up or at idle? They don't charge at low RPMs.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
