While you have it out, just see if a good old fashioned cleaning will work. Get a toothpick or a paperclip and see if the hole is just clogged. Spray on some PB Blaster and work the ball free if needed in it. Then replace and see if that does the trick.

I have the trans working ok now. I put a rebuilt valve in and now forward works pretty good. It doesnt work at idle tho and reverse doesnt work unless i rev the engine up a bit. Fluid level is good. Im thinking there might be something up with the pump as it looks like someone has been in it before. I found teflon tape around several of the setscrews ontop of the pump.

i replaced the fluid and filter with no success. the trans is still very jerky and wont move at a low idle despite the new relief valve for the forward motion. I would like to find another ported hydro pump and see about switching to that pump to see if i can get it to work properly. or perhaps just pick up another transaxle out of a quietline and swap the rear end to see if that fixed the hydro lift as well. if anyone knows of any near CT feel free to let me know.

Before doing any major surgery, I suggest making sure the linkages aren't sloppy. Have you done the trunnion fix? If not and you are unaware of it, just search here for it.

If the lift isn't working, I wonder if someone removed the charge pump and put it on backwards? Or pinched the o-ring on re-installation. Wouldn't that also affect the hydro drive?
