Sam. I thought that is how this game works. Buy for $2,000 put another $1200 in it then sell it for $2500. Then tell the wife how you made $500 profit.

Hi All, I'm J-Mech's friend here in Illinois. I guess I'm extremely lucky because I have bought 6 Cub Supers in the past 6 months. They have all been less than 100 miles from my home and all had very attractive price tags! To be fair, my tractor's conditions range from builders to decent originals.
The most expensive Super I've seen locally was $2000, and it had led a hard life. I didn't buy that tractor and I think it is still on the dealer's lot. From what I've seen, if a person is patient, you can find a Super at a decent price. The technique I use most is simple. Ask people if they know where an old Cub Cadet resides. I have gotten more leads that way and also inquire at mower repair shops. I found my last two Supers, a 2182 and a 2082 through a lead from a Cub Cadet dealer. The irony is the tractors were owned by a father and son. I'm sure location has a lot to do with prices. Here in central Illinois there was a large dealer network so there were a lot of Cubs sold. As stated by others here, I wouldn't want to offer more than $1000-$1200. There are too many unknowns such as why and how was the engine overhauled, rearend and hydrostat condition, plastic condition, hours. Be cautious, because like Sam said, you will be surprised at how much you might spend getting the tractor up in tip top shape
I don't know where you are in Illinois but I think our state is one of the more fertile Cub areas. I have found quite a bounty of Cubs in my area. Anything from Originals through Cyclops. As I stated earlier, patience is your friend. You'll be surprised at what pops up. Do as I said, ask questions of anyone, I've found Cubs of all shapes and sizes just by asking friends or total strangers about these tractors. Again, don't let the "fever" cause you to make a decision you might regret. |

I paid $1000 for the 2182 when I bought it. I also picked up a nice 2284 now owned by CadPlans at the same time. I ended up putting a new engine in the 2284 along with a ton of other things. I still have the 2182 and I have close to 3 grand in it at the moment. Was it a bad deal, well if I had it to do over I would have been better off staying home. Water over the bridge as they say. Glad Cad got a killer tractor for a cheap price he's a cool guy. I'm happy with the 2182, so I'm out a few bucks. Like we have all said you will need to take your time and the right tractor will come along. Will it be like new for next to nothing, no but I'm sure you will find something that works for you.

I think the area has a huge impact on it. Here in south central PA, most cyclops bring $2000 and up when they are available. However, in your area, it doesn't sound like its worth that at all.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
