Thanks for the update Tim. I have been unable to go see my neighbor as his schedule and mine were not matching up. Maybe tomorrow night.

bleoh - you win a cigar!!! I went over the neighbors last night. Pulled the plugs they were dry - that was good news. I then took your suggestion and tried to spin the engine over with a socket on the bolt for the PTO. I think I tried first to turn it CCW as looking straight in at the PTO. It would not budge. I said OK, then tried it CW. It moved a little, I heard what I thought was the bendix retracting from the ring gear. I turned it a little more then turned it in a CCW direction with no problem at all. My neighbor hopped on up on the seat to give the old girl a whirl. She fired right up with no problem at all!
Thanks to everyone here from my neighbor.

Now it's time to pull the starter and lube the Bendix so it doesn't happen again.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
