No rattle springs and I greased the muffler bearings while I was at it.

Default fini !

Well, the second time is the charm.

I took it all apart again and all I did was to make sure the pilot bushing was greased and I filed down some points where the Spirol pins on the drive plate had squooshed out some when I replaced them some months ago. I watched the action of the clutch as it malfunctioned yesterday and this is all I could come up with I smoothed those pins down with a file and then polished them up with a strip of emery cloth. I have no idea if this had anything to do with the problem, but I think so. There's not a lot of wiggle in the engine mounting holes but all seems to line up fine now.

A little bit of the normal waltz between the brake adjust and the clutch adjust and all is fine.

I need to put the fenders back, but it's good to have it back working. It wasn't much fun doing it over, but nice to have it working. It's still as ugly as ever.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
