So is there a way to get them tested?
Interchange them with known good ones (either manual or automatic type).

I pulled mine yesterday and will soon completely disassemble the transmission.

I can't at the time but I may be able to talk to someone I know and borrow one from his machine.

Yes it is. I tried swapping them around just to be sure. No difference.

Does the charge pump relief valve located on the right side of the housing ever go bad? I found that it's supposed to build 200 psi. Idk if that info is correct or not. I also found that there are two test ports but I don't have a gauge to use.

Always best to start with the easiest and simplest first.

You've eliminated the controls and driveline.

Oil and filter is good.

The next easiest is to acquire the release valves or even just one. If you put in one known good one, then one direction should work, if it is the valves.

Usually on hydrostats, if there is not enough charge oil, the pump will be noisy, at full swash especially.

It's only noisey while going up a hill. I have to wait a few days but I have access to a good valve off of my buddy's 1650.

That does sound like the hydro failing.

I started at 1:00 and by 3:30 the whole thing was on the bench. I spent another hour cleaning the outside of the assembly. Takes another 15 minutes to take the head off to look inside. They are very simple and with care are easy to reassemble. You just have to use extreme caution not to bang, drop or scratch some of the intervals.

You won’t have to take it this far apart to find to determine if the hydro is shot.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
