I agree with Austin. t acts as a back up if you put it against the back of the collar for the spring

Okay that sounds good, but will it interfere with my rockshaft or lift arm for my attachments? For now I plan on running stock classes and still using it around the farm. In the future if I have a dedicated pulling tractor it would be easy to just remove the lift arm. For now I would like to use it for both pulling and chores.

Can anyone shed some light on the situation? If I can mount it close to the steering box? Thank you

Sometimes you just gotta get dirty and figure it out. The two most knowledgable pullers I know on this site chimed in and gave you advice. It sounds like you can mount the bearing anywhere, buts it's best to support the spring. Maybe if it's in the way when it's up against the spring, you can make a bushing to slide over the driveshaft that will allow you to place the bearing further back yet still support the split collar.

That's exactly what I was thinking Bill. You could even add a zerk to said bushing/spacer.

You don't have to have it smacked up against the spring if you don't want to. Pullers just typically do it for added insurance in case the split collar comes loose. As mentioned you could easily make a bushing though.

Berwil I completely agree with you that I have had some very knowledgeable guys chime in and I will not argue with their advice. I will add an extra bushing to keep it clear of the steering box so it wont put it back into the rockshaft. Thank you guys. I will mock it up the next day when I get a new pressure plate from Zach Kerber Machine. Thank you guys for chiming in.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
