Thank you for that link, that helps alot. I noticed my engine had no nuts on the two tall front studs, but I'm pretty sure the one I took the gasket from had nuts on each. Could this be why the gasket blew? Those two only had spacers on them .

Ok head squared head with sand paper on glass and new gasket installed , head tourqed and it runs great , no more chirping.
Thanks to j-mech and Sam, and all that gave advice. I'm so pleased to have my 149 up and running again . Even got to test the mower deck and this thing mows like a champ. I'm positive it will outcut our husky zero turn 24 hp by a lot. Except on the turns. Lol Thanks again to everyone. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
