Update: As I posted on another thread, a PO had welded two short mufflers to the exhaust manifolds, so I had to buy a new set of manifolds. Got a good pair off ebay for $23 (including shipping), and a set of exhaust manifold gaskets from a Kohler site. Also bought a used muffler off ebay that turned out to be in much better shape than expected, for about $30 (including shipping).

Got them installed last week, so now the engine not only runs great, but sounds like it's supposed to. Still pleased with the 682.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
