Rows are a little crooked, but the kids helped plant and that's ok... and I have some weeds popping up.

Back when I was young and dad was trying to teach me how to plant corn he would gripe about my crooked rows. I tried telling him that you get more seed in a crooked row. He did not think that was funny and chewed me out good. Dad was known for his ability to plant arrow straight rows. They looked like you had autosteer and a gps. The wife and I decided that we will not plant a garden this year because we are doing a add on to the house and will not have the time for it. I will miss my fresh veggies!!!!

This is my small garden behind the house. Took this picture about a week or two ago. Its been dry in my neck of the woods so I am hoping for some rain.

From Left to right:

3 Rows of Silver Queen (99 stalks in all)

1/2 Row of Straight Zuchinni
1/2 Row of Crookneck Squash

2 Rows of Spineless Okra

Last Row on right:

13 Tomato Plants (6 Big Boy, 6 Better Boy, 1 Hybrid Cherry)

Mamoth Jalapeno Pepper, Sweet Banana Pepper, Tabasco Pepper, and Sweet Bell

Off to the side I have a few cucumber as well.

Question: How often do you guys fertilize once your plants start fruiting out? I've heard that once you have some vegetables after the blooms, you can fertilize a small amount about once every ten days, but I've had a garden for about 15 years and never done it more than 2 or 3 times.

Garden looks good Chad.
I couldn't put in a garden this year because of back surgery. But there is next year.
As far as fertilize. I fertilize when I plant, then when the plants get a good start I will side dress 2 or 3 times. For my tomatoes I use miracle grow at about 2 week intervals all the way through the season. Also on my pepper plants. I have always had good luck this way. But when its really dry don't forget to water.

I've used it on plants around the house, but never with my garden. I've got some at home so I may give it a shot this evening. Hopefully I can post some pics of good progress here soon.

Buckwheat,, QUITE a cover crop,,,

I planted this 5 weeks ago, the plants are 50 to 60 inches tall,, I did not add any fertilizer at the time of planting.



We read that butterflies like it,, there have been bees and butterflies on it for three days,,

Who is gonna teach me how to make buckwheat pancakes??
