Roland done went and found a pretty one with a magic Aladdin lamp embossed on it!
Do ya 'pose if you took it off, the "magic smoke"or better yet "Jeannie" would get out?

He was a little late. See post #10. That yellow cap is not an OEM 1864 CC cap.

I would think a vented cap would hurt the performance of the fuel pump.

Wrong cap , it possibly should also be yellow also with an oil can symbol on the top
That is a fuel cap almost exactly the same as a couple of Ryobi I have , minus the holes
Have you checked the breather hose that runs into the air cleaner ?

A few years ago, my 1864 would stumble/die under higher load. The fuel tank, underside valves, hoses and fuel filter were replaced. Still had the engine stumble/die under mowing load going up a hill. Was ok on the flat part of the yard. Plenty of fuel in the tank. I replaced the original square metal pulse fuel pump with an ebay sourced round plastic one. Problem solved. I took apart the metal pump. The rubber check valve diaphragm was deteriorated. No replacement diaphragm available.

Here is the end result....I purchased the proper oil fill cap and engine now continues to run as it should. It does have an oil smell when it warms up so I am sure the internals are severely worn in the engine

Or what You had for a cap allowed oil to leak on the fins and now it's starting to stink. You may want to remove the engine, pull the tins and give it a good cleaning. Plugged fins cause them to over heat and then they blow the head gaskets.
