I'm researching the torque values and bolts on the head before I take it apart and have a question. The 105 manual says to torque to 420 in-lbs which is 35 foot-lbs. In the K241 manual it says 25 - 30 foot-lbs.

Wait , what--- a brass screen ? I understood it's a vent , just thought it was a solid plug that could vent. Mine is painted over (PO). Can it be removed for clearing the screen ?

Looking good steved.
The hardest part is not scratching the paint during reassembly.

Thanks for the response. I got the head off and here are the pictures. This is my first time on an engine so I need some opinions. How bad or good is this? I see the one burn mark in the head. I realize what I have to do to put it back together but other than gently scrape and vacuum what else. Thanks! Oh, and the brown dirt on the edges of the head are what we down south call dirt daubers!

Two questions. The nut holding the engine pulley on, is it a right or left hand thread. Reasoning tells me, I could be wrong, it is a left hand since the motor rotates CW from this angle. I didn't want to put a lot of pressure on it without being sure. Also I've noticed when we rotate the shaft, the two rods that go up and down and push the valves open, sorry not sure of the proper name, do not come back down in the same position. They rotate a little bit each time they come back down. Is this normal? Bear with me, first time in an engine. Thanks!

The nut is standard right hand threads. As for the things that lift the valves, there called lifters and yes they will spin freely.

If you have a impact gun I'd use that, doing it by hand doesn't work the best unless you can stop the engine from spinning.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
