It's a 40" 442 tiller. Before I disclose the price, what do you think is a fair price? (Due to the laws of economics, I'm sure I overpaid)

MH - CI = Cast Iron (instead of the CCC aluminum rear end) The cast iron are normally red on our 982's and the aluminum are black, along with a different rear cover shape and bolt configuration.

I paid $1000 for mine, same 442. Made by Bush Hog, find a BH dealer for parts, BH# is 442.

And that splined yoke...guard it with your life, ain't easy to find.

BTW I've only seen 2 others for sale, one on CL for $200 but was a rust bucket and I was late on it anyway, in Indy, but at the time I would have driven for it just for the box and shaft and gear.

Other went for $600 but was missing a tine and some other problem, in PA IIRC.

Only 48" I've ever seen for sale was in Canada.

My buddy at work has a 986 with the rear tiller in mint condition. Also has the rear pto driven brush/mower. All he does is show them. I would have to use mine. He said when he gets ready to kick the bucket, he's going to burn it all so no one can have the stuff.

There is nothing special about a rear plate on a super so I would just see if you can get a used plate off another tractor and try to do the modification to it. Shouldn't be a big deal.

Came with the splined shaft and looks to be in very good shape. I got it for $600. I'm figuring I'll have about $1500 in everything including the PTO and Cat 0 3 pt. Not what I wanted to spend (more than the tractor cost) but with the sale of my electric sleeve hitch and putting my JD 212 up for sale, I should come out even. I also bought a 450 blower a few weeks ago in very good condition and complete that I'm picking up next weekend. I got that for $250. I'll still need a minor part or two and the extension kit if I want to install it on the 982, but I think I'm going to put it on the 1862 and enjoy the power steering. If I miss the steering brakes, I'll switch it over to the 982. This is a crazy affliction!

Yeah it will be included...just thinking the bolt pattern may be different...you can drill it out if it is...if not then you're good.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
