The new Cub Cadet XT3 looks to me like it could put an old John Deere 318 to bed no-problem. Please, go check one out at the Cub Cadet dealership just for kicks.

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day!!
YOU better go look again!! I've got a 318.

318 had steering brakes, power steering; could have cat 0 3pt, rear PTO AND dual from hyd remotes and 1 set in the rear! Plus, I don't know if it was a dealer option or not, but it's pretty easy to switch it from a 2 stick to 3 stick hyd system. Cub Cadet XT3.... has power steering. That's it. Rear 3pt isn't even an option, let alone any of the other stuff.

You are absolutely incorrect with the 318 comment. I've worked on that series before and they are possibly the best garden tractors ever made.

There are only 2 garden tractors better than a JD 318. That would be a JD 420 & 430.

Any of you guys actually go to a dealership and check out the xt3? They look like a pretty good machine, and I'll bet the world they will cut better and preform stronger than that old JD 318!

My neighbor has a 318, and there is nothing over-whelming impressive about it!

Go for the new!

What, should I go out and but the new xt3 and you get your JD 318 and see who can break theirs first? That new Cub will scream out the lawn, and rock that JD!

Truth! And you do read a lot of that around here! But I'll take the moment to respond!

Your right. The JD 318 is the better! But you know as well as me, that the days of good quality stuff is pretty much gone.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
