An update on the 1450. Since I went back into the workforce (OTR truck driver), I have very little time for my toys . It has all the usual Quietline issues plus a few extra. The engine valves were not the best so they will be replaced too. Items to be repaired; new engine mounts, new driveline parts, replace muffler and air duct/box around muffler and weld several cracked places on the chassis and hood. The oil pan was badly worn from bad mounts...a new one will be installed.

An update...it has only been four months. I dunno...a glacier makes more progress moving along than I do working on these tractors! The frame was cracked in several places. I don't have any donor frames right now so welding it was the next best option. The right front spindle is very sloppy in the axle casting. I do have extra spindles and wide frame axles available.....but...was thinking of installing a "cyclops" style axle. I have two styles available. This is an experiment so I need input as to what will be the best choice. This tractor will be used to mow, till and remove snow. As always PICS!

Should I install a "cyclops" style axle?

Depends on whatcha using it for as it will raise the front up. I see one may be from the early style cyclops that came on a 1541 and such. That one would not raise the front.

I plan on using it to mow, till and remove snow. Cumulative wear on the deck hanger and mating round bar at mid chassis causes the deck pitch to be quite low. I try to set the deck pitch higher in the front like Simplicity to improve the cut quality. The "cyclops" axle(s) will result in a wider stance and an improved turning radius but which one will give me the height I need without creating other problems? Others have done this swap...just looking for input.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
