Good lookin' 682, Aaron. Is that steering rod bent, or was it hmmmm a "custom made" piece?.

Over the years I have seen some oddball things done to Cub Cadets.

It looks as if your 682 is a CCC model. Your serial number tag is a Cub Cadet Corporation, Cleveland, Ohio identification. An IH built machine would be tagged International Harvester Company, Chicago, Illinois 60602. You have a nice looking 682. This is the IH designed tractor with the good Kohler engine.

You have a great story, and it is good to see that your daughter is interested in it. This tractor will last long enough for her to own it one day.
Thanks for the info and the compliment. I knew I read that red axle was cast and made by IH where black was aluminum and MTD made axles. I just wasnt sure if the tractor as a whole was considered one or the other.

Ha ha, I bet there have been odd things seen. But no, this was not one of those. It turned super short to the left, but had like a 40 ft radius to the right. It was almost a zero turn to the left in fact.

Great looking machine, & the price was right.

Look at it this way, the doggie house probably needed an upgrade anyways?

See, ask a question & someone on this site will know the answer.

NIK,

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
