I don't want to sound arrogant, but I own a shop and have been rebuilding motors for a long time. I also, since there seems to be some confusion about this, consulted another friend/mechanic of mine he and I agree this is correct.

I will also state again, that I have a motor torn down awaiting rebuild, that I am about 99% sure has never been apart, (hasn't been bored if it was) and the rings in it are as I stated. |

Doesn't sound arrogant to me, sounds like honest experience, which on the internet is good as gold. I've read fairly consistently that the shiny ring does go up top, in many different kinds of engines, along with bevel up on that top ring. Bevel up/down on the second ring though is a different story, I heard alot of each. Some people said it goes bevel down, so that on the intake stroke the air that ring pushes against in the bore, from the crankcase, pushes in to the cavity between piston and bevel, and forces that ring out towards the bore (just as the top ring does on the compression stroke). The other side says both rings do that for the compression stroke when installed bevel up, so that's how it should be done. What I gather is that the middle ring bevel placement may not even matter so much...? Many second rings don't even have a bevel it seems.

Nother I just went through this same thing. Jmech is DEFINATELY right the chrome ring on top and the second ring inner bevel went up on mine, my first ring set had no marks while my second set had a dot on the second ring and it went up. I know exactly what you mean about conflicting reports online about ring replacement and also the k series manual here says see ring manufacturers instructions.
P.S. Make sure you hone the cylinder with fresh or reused bore, both of these other guys giving you advice helped me also, sounds like a no brainer but I made a big mistake by not doing it the first time. Thanks again jmech and Don

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
