Baling wire.......Geeesh!
I thought that stuff was for Deer's.
Same issue here on some.
In the off position. The last few revs of the engine while winding down to a stop.
Key vibrates out and slides down the tunnel cover and onto the hydro or gearbox.

George, why didn't you just remove the key ring and "fob" so the cats didn't swat at it? Lol, that's what I would have done. I never was in to a key ring. Oh, maybe a small one, and that way I could hold it in my hand in the dark and count keys. I memorize the order they are in so I can find them in the dark. But obviously only on a select few key rings. All the Cubs, tractors, ATV's, ect, ect, only have the one key and no ring on them.
Ya mine only falls out when I have gotten "off" also
Been that way for over 57 years.

If I didn't use a fob on the ignition key, it falls in the grass, straw, hay er what ever and is difficult to find, thus the bailing wire to choke knob, problem solved no fob needed.
Guess I could get fancy and use a little chain instead of wire, but these things are just tools to use not like it is going to Barrett Jackson to be sold for retirement money, Ha,LOL

Remove the Engine Side Panels, then the Gas Tank to expose the back side of the Pedestal. Once you open up that area, you can get a good look at the Switch and the Molex Connector. Make any further or additional repair(s), then button it back up.
When I had the same problem this is what I did to replace the switch. Once the tank is out of the way it was easy.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
