Isn't it well regarded that Cat 0 is the smallest 3 point?
Yup, it is.

So then, if I understand this correctly, both systems will work. I had an after market cat 2 3point hitch on the farmall M that I had. so I'm familiar with 3 point hitches. I just assumed(yes, I know) that cub cadet only used the sleeve hitch, unless it was a super garden tractor? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Thanx so much for all your replies and information. Scott.

You can get a 3 point (Cat 0) for others. 1572, 1810/1/2 comes to mind. Certainly once MTD/CCC took over.

3 point with 2 lift arms...as standard.

I'm going to continue to be stubborn and call the other hitch a sleeve hitch, because that's what it is (hitch is sleeved in a single lift rod, no?)

Honestly I bet the differences came as the industry collected around "real" 3 points, and fast hitch/snap coupler/etc fell to the way side. You can still get a sleeve hitch for Craftsman/MTD products (maybe others) that looks just like that on my 1711.

Well technically after MTD took over production of the Cub Cadet Garden tractor and went to an aluminum Transmission case on the 82 series a true Cat 0 was available for the Standard Garden Tractors and Not Just Super Garden tractors, and they drop Production of the IH 3point Hitch for Most models(still used the design for certain Models with the Shaft to right angle Gear Box) Which You needed a Brinly hitch adapter to use most sleeve Hitch Implements for unless it was an IH specific attachment which would use the IH 3 point design to connect the attachment

Technically, Roper Made a 3 Point Hitch which they called a Tri-Hitch which was Narrower than a true Cat 0 It was used On the Sears Suburban Garden tractors which were based on Roper Tractors.

My Cub Cadet 2182 actually has a Limited Cat 1 3point Hitch Now Used Xtreme's Cat 0 82 Modified Kit, Then added Arms and Uprights and a new Middle Link end From Ruegg . Now, the 2182 has a Limited Cat 1 That actually lifts 2 inches Higher than the Limited Cat 1 on the John Deere X700 series.

Brinly stopped Production On there Cat 0 Implements in 2005 . There are some ATV Manufacturer's that have since brought the Cat 0 Back like This company https://www.motoalliance.com/all-pro...t-0-implements and Places Like Koplin and https://www.tuff-bilt.com/ manufacture Cat 0 still. For awhile Cat 0 really died as the two Major Manufacturer Got out of Cat 0 Production Brinly & Agri-Fab. But it seems to be making a come back somewhat . The Problem in the Past was Cat 0 Implements always use to be more expensive then Cat 1 Implements. Places Like worksaver use to Make Cat0/1 Implements that were less expensive then standard Cat 0. Which is what I used In the Past on My Cat 0 3point hitch on My JD 425 and White GT2055. Because spending a $150.00 on worksaver rear blade was Better then spending $450 for Brinly Cat 0 rear blade. It was a Big reason John Deere went to the Limited Cat 3point Hitch Because Super Garden tractor size Tractor could support some of the smaller Cat 1 Implements so it was a no Brainier on there Part to switch to Cat 1 for there Super sized GT

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
