I didn't repolarize it after I cleaned up the inside and reinstalled the S/G. I didn't get that far before I had to put the Cub away for the evening. I'll try to do that tomorrow - after church, of course.

"A small multimeter will not be of sufficient capacity to check amp/charge but you can check voltage @ the battery with it."

I think I might know why my multimeter died on me... However, the local hardware has the fuse for it, maybe that'll get it going again.

Im not too sure about polarizing a s/g. Hope you meant the regulator, as that is the only component relating polarizing, but I have heard that they polarize automatically as installed on a cub. I don't know, guess it wouldn't hurt to do it anyway on the regulator.

I was checking the wiring diagram for the 122 and noticed the GEN wire from the VR was routed to the FIELD terminal on the S/G instead of the ARMATURE terminal. I rewired it, polarized it and jump started the engine. I followed the steps to check the charging system and the engine RPM's dropped with the jumper connected. Now I have to put a full charge on the battery and get an ammeter connected to see where I am at this point. At least I know the S/G is still good!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
