Says here Walbro teamed up with MTD to build that engine. That makes some sense., Walbro knows fuel management...
But who built the actual engine? I think if you research it you will find a China company called Powermore

FYI. This was released by MTD in 2017
Will be interesting to see if these engines are any good and more importantly if they support parts and tech help

It's an MTD motor, fuel-injected. It works great now. A co-worker who is kind of a lawnmower expert suggested I start running gas in it that had been mixed with Sta-Bil. I was surprised, but that actually fixed it. It always fires right up now, even after sitting all winter. P.S. The original problem did NOT involve gas sitting in it all winter. Thanks everyone for your help.

Pretty sure they brand some but never seen one in a cub.

XT2 should be a Kohler, Kawasaki might have been an option
They bought a corp in China that's been making their snowblower and tiller engines for years. XT1 42" has had a MTD motor for 2 or 3 years now.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
