A bad battery can read proper voltage when at rest, then drop drastically when a load is applied.
Leave your meter attached and try to start. What do you read then?

It could still drop. A dead battery kills a lot of current capacity.

even tried with my car and jumper cables, and nothing. so I'm a bit confused as that works every time.

went to Walmart, grabbed a battery, started right up. still confused lol.
maybe the battery went bad internally?

Just maybe when you took off both battery cables on the old battery to clean them, you missed the corrosion under one of them?
As a test, hook the old battery and see what happens after you make sure you have good connections.
It happens more than you think.

terminals were clean. just bizarre it was running, then died and nothing would jump it.
