In this guys case, yes there was.
A big hole was found in the casting below the input shaft.
Due to severe corrosion it appeared.

Look at the other videos he has made, including his last (so far) perhaps he will live long enough to post more.

Not really any reason here either... except maybe just to look. Would have been better to just swap it.

Sure if you had another, etc.
Perhaps he has the skill or knows people that do to take that part off, weld up the hole and machine it where needed to save it, just because it could be done.

I dunno, but sometimes people actually like to do things that others view as the hard way or expensive way.
