How is the vent gone by adding a zerk? I'm pretty sure Jon is going to make a new hole.

Default zerk

is it safe to say if we dont ever have to mess with it unless it leaks there is no way a normal person is going to drill a hole and tap a gear box with alum shavings (no way to remove) nobody has ansewered the ? how do you check the level my conculsion is i guess you dont thats why its sealed

I put a few squirts of grease and gear oil in mine since this is the first time I have ever used it. I will take everything apart this summer to clean all the old grease out. It doesn't take very long to take everything apart. It's really a very simple machine.

If you put grease on your drill bits and tap very few shavings will get inside. Even if a few did get in, it's not a hydraulic system in there. I would say to be on the safe side take the boxes apart at least every 10 years or so and clean and repack.

Edit: To check the level stick a zip tie in, if it comes out dry, add lube.

No, your wrong. It looses grease. I blew one up because of it. The box isn't sealed that tight. How do you check it..... through the hole. Just like Travis said, if you can't see it..... stick something in there. Trouble is, from the factory they are filled with grease. It's not oil, that's why I said best solution is a zerk. Then you just grease it with a couple pumps daily. If it squirts out the top, your good. No more guessing. Your question has been answered, your just not listening, or you just don't understand.

yea i dont know anything about mine either 1st year i have run it maybe like you said i will just spilt the case this summer and repack so i know what i got i have not got time to go above cub engeners and drill i like oem plug and play thanks shrewcub

johnathan i am trying to listen but explain what you are saying about pumping grease till it comes out the top i dont want to drill no holes please excuse me if i am dumd but i dont want my 451 to look like your pic did you drill yours whats top did you remove vent plug

Yes remove the vent plug. I have to remove a bolt to get mine to clear.

Back to what I said..... I was considering drilling the case and adding a zerk. Then, just grease it until grease comes out the top vent. (The little plug in the top.) If you don't want to drill your case, then there is no good way to grease it apart from disassembly. If your not going to drill the case, I suggest taking it apart and lubing it all up. I don't know why you are so opposed to drilling and tapping it for a zerk, it's not going to hurt it.

We need to be specific on where to add a zerk though.... can't do it just anywhere on that box.
