Is there a way to tighten up the steering, or the wheels, on the 1862's with the power steering. My niece has one and you feel like you're constantly correcting it when you mow a bumpy hilly yard.

It's probably the steering cylinder. When the internal seals wear out it won't stay in position. You can find a new one here.

You may also want to check with forum member CubDieselFan. He has some sweet kits to replace all your ball joints. This is for a 3000 series machine but I'm pretty sure he stocks kits for all Cub Cadets.

They can, you have to cut the welds, replace the seals on the piston and then weld it back up. I have never done it but several members on here have done it successfully.

I just replaced the cylinder on my 1862 this summer and it fixed
all kinds of steering woes. Even some I did not know I had.
Easy fix and well worth it.

How do you tell if the cylinder is bad?

I did notice that this part (see pic) has some play in the mounting hole where the bolt goes through, would this explain part of it?

There's also a lot of front to rear play in the axle, it definitely needs tightened up closer to the blocks. I'm thinking this is also accounting for some of the play.

Anyone know if the threads (left side looking at it from the front), on the tie rod are right hand or left hand? Itried both directions to loosen the lock nut and it won't budge?
