As many as it takes. All depends on the paint you use. Better paint covers better. Cheap paint is cheap paint.

yellow is a horrible color for coverage, it doesnt matter what brand it is. ive painted cubs with ppg as well as case/ih paint and both had poor coverage over gray epoxy, it will take about 5 coats to insure that it wont look bad in the sunlight.

LOL.... that made me think of a story. I have a friend who ones a body shop. He was trying to paint a yellow Pontiac one day when I stopped by. Wow he was HOT! Could not get that thing painted to suite him. He showed it to me.... he said he had like 5 coats on and you could still see primer. He said he was beginning to think he was painting with water. Ended up sanding it all and repainting it again. IIRC, there was something wrong with the paint. He was shooting Nason.

I painted the door and fender on a yellow Pontiac sunfire a few years back and I had 9 coat of base on it before I was satisfied that you wouldn't be able to see through it when it was out in the sun, yellow is just a horrible color with a really transparent pigment.

Well all I used was van sickle IH white which is #935 white and 483 federal yellow. I used a sealer primer and rust converter on the deck. Gray primer sealed on the white a vansickle yellow primer on the yellow. I do my 1211 I'll prob go with epoxy. It's holding up well. I keep it inside cleaned and waxed. It does have scratches from using it, but the paints rock hard. The yellow primer works great for painting the yellow parts.
