Sediment bowl is far superior to that "pancake" mesh screen filter. The sediment bowl will trap water as well as filter the gas. Plus, the shut off is built into it. It is designed for gravity flow systems and is guaranteed to flow enough fuel.

Good point about the water. Hadn’t thought of that.

Though you said gravity feed. My 126 is gravity feed fuel, but this tractor has a pump. Maybe the hood isn’t correct? Or maybe the engine is a replacement?

Thanks for all the great responses.

Jon stated the advantages of a sediment bowl set up. Perhaps you should post pictures so we can figure out what you have.

Hmmm. Can you only post pics if they’re hosted somewhere else? Tried posting some from my files, but it seems you can’t.

You can add them here as an attachment. They must be a no larger than a certain size though.

It's not supposed to have a fuel pump. No idea why it does. Won't necessarily hurt anything. If it ever goes bad, take it off and put a block off cover on it. Or, take it off now and put a cover on it....

I think I would leave the pump on for the moment since you probably don't have a blocking plate. The I would take the lines off it and put a hose barb between them eliminating the pump for now. See how it runs like that. Try to run the hose in a way that it won't go down then back up to the carb.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
