I had a tractor act that way once.
New battery, cables checked, etc. A new starter solved my problem.

Often people say they clean the wiring connections and everything and they still neglect to establish that they have good ground. And still wonder why engine turns over slow. Check the ground!

Sounds like a good idea to pull the motor and remove all the tin shielding and clean up everything around the flywheel. Wouldn't hurt to remove the flywheel also because they will build up with crap and around the stator. Also sounds like you might need a starter.

You've found mouse house so its certain he was in there. One other thing is for certain. Mice love to chew wires. So the ends might be clean and tight but in the middle could be wires bare and shorting or broken.

I ordered new points and a condenser. Came in the mail today and I got it started up!

Can't wait for more snow in Wisconsin to try the plow out.
