Spindle housings
FWIW:
later deck aluminum spindle housings that use automotive front wheel bearings ( the inexpensive ones) came on later deep dish decks, amoung them are 46" decks from a cub 1720. With a little research, a fellow I'm sure, can find other decks/models of lawnmowers that used that bearing housing. They do appear on ebay frequently, especially now that the season is approaching. There are times those mower decks are in bad shape and can be bought inexpensively. I have converted a 50A and a 50C deck. |

The original deck is in really bad shape. The spindles are frozen solid. Probably the only reusable parts are the pulleys if I can even get them off. I'll send some pics of the 1440 deck when it gets a little warmer.... 19 deg this morning.

Soak them with some Power Blaster for a couple days and introduce them to a 1/2" impact, they almost always come apart. Only had a couple that needed the fire wrench treatment.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
