I just used a long bolt with a lock washer and nut on the inside.

1541 cc with same problem
That was a great idea. wish I had that hole there on the 1541 to do the same thing.

If you can get a pin in that little hole consistently maybe you could forgo the bolt and nut- just weld a bit of round stock the same diameter as the bolt to your plate, and slide it through the big hole before pinning the little hole. I think that'd do a similar amount of good without having to get out the wrenches to take it on and off. Kinda like the pin deal for locking the float on my 169's hydro lift under the tunnel cover.

Nope but I have everything from a 108 to an 1811.
Edit - we do have a 1440 but it's in storage so I can't look at it.
