I wanted more info on the meaning of the numbers etched on the Mikuni carb because I was trying to figure out if the carb was original to the engine.

I believe I have stumbled on to a clue! The engine CODE : 98030611 means the engine was manufactured 03/06/1998. Correct?

The B&S repair manual says (on the carb index, page 75) the Mikuni carbs were used on this engine (303447) before 08/01/1995 and they used a Nikki carb for my engine starting 08/01/1995.

Either they used a left over Mikuni carb body (explains same #'s as on Nikki carbs) or someone replaced the carb (doesn't explain the Nikki #'s on the side).

If I knew what the #'s on the carb represented (date code) then I could confirm either way.

Side note,

I contacted B&S. They replied, B&S didn't use Mikuni carbs on there engines.

They were no help at all!

Since there is a bunch of unknowns, and you have hit a "dead end" in some avenues, there is only one way to get back to original. Bite the bullet and get the correct Carb for your tractor. Then you will know everything is correct. There is no point in throwing money at someone else's cobble job.

That is my suggest. It is your tractor, your time, your money, your decision.

IH, the over flow tube is only 3"-4" long (or 10" depending on who I'm talking to) and just points down.

Here are some pics of the carb. The numbers on the side are:

6100 22-121
808069 94(looks like a 4)B

Hey, thanks OAK!

That looks like mine. I have seen no evidence of any other "WORK" done on the machine so I'm guessing it was a left over carb shell that was used. Also only has 362 hours and I'm confident that is correct. No wear in usual places.

Based on the numbers you posted "303447, 1279-E1" this is what you are supposed to have on that engine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
