Now if the pump is turning, and the charge pump is installed correctly,
take the fill plug out of the rear cover and wrap a rag around your air hose and insert it and give the rearend and "enema" WHILE it is running.
You don't want to blow it's brains out, just a very gentle pressure to get the fluid into the charge pump.
Everything is prolly dry and you need to get things primed.
It should take less than a minute to perform the priming.

You are correct the pix in the manual I linked is wrong, whodda thunk.
I just checked 2 hydros and the flat is indeed on the right.
figgered I'd save removing the cover and go by the book, wrong! the book pix is
not correct, prolly because it is more of a generic pix as some units may require
a reverse input.
Leave it to me to do that (prolly because I'm left handed) --DUH
I just edited the post.

So I've been to the shop and the flat is on the wrong side. How do I turn it around? Will I have to drain the pump?

Tough one, take the 2 bolts out that hold the charge pump to the main pump and turn it over. Put the bolts back in and your good to go.

The 1872 is all good and well after turning the pump oval over. Now all it needs is to sharpen the blades and put the big 60 back on and I'll be able to get everything done at home for the fall!

You might give some feedback to the guys that did the work, for their future reference.

So what did they do for $400?

Re-seal, as in replaced the 4 seals?
