That's all I need to do is fix that governor. it's just the play in the plate that hits the governor screw/spring and that disc is the carb that's the issue. Other than that. Works perfectly upon inspection.

Ok.... so I you need to get all your terms straight. The thing that is all loose is a throttle shaft, and it is not connected to the choke. It's not a "governor rod and choke plate". The choke is the other shaft in the carburetor, and the governor is inside the engine.
Your screw on that holds the throttle plate to the shaft is loose. You need to address that. Take the screw out, pull the throttle shaft out and braze the lever and shaft back together. Then put it back together and fix that loose screw. Maybe it's stripped, or just loose. Either way, either crimp the screw when you put it back in, or use red loctite on the threads. If that screw comes out with the engine running, it's not going to sound pretty banging around inside the engine. Originally, the throttle shaft was peened over to keep the lever on. (Like a rivet.) It was never welded to begin with. I'd fix it. |

Make sure you try to get the lever attached to the shaft in the right place. If it's wrong, you may not be able to set the low idle stop correctly, the max throttle stop won't be right, and you may have issues getting the governor to carb linkage correct.
As a note, this repair will require you to readjust the governor, and all the carb settings. Make dang sure you know how to do this, and complete all adjustments before running it again. The governor is going to be pretty far out of adjustment. Better find a manual for the engine. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
