thanks guys. It is pretty rough. I've always had dogs and never lost one in this way. I guess what's ironic is I actually picked Joey up on an exit ramp off the interstate on my way to work one morning. It was still dark out and I thought it was a little bunny sitting on the side I was about to hit. Well once I saw it was a pup I pulled off and ran back and got him, almost getting hit myself. I managed to save him once I guess...

I even called the state road a couple days to see if they had any pickups and they said 'No'. We had put and ad in the local trading journal and got the call this evening. I didn't believe the girl at first, but she described his markings to a 'T'. I know some people say it's "just a dog", but they are called man's best friend for a reason. Kids grow up and don't want to play (even 5 year olds), wives don't always listen, but there's something about a dog... I guess a dog is about the only animal that would give its life to save yours.

sorry to see this, he was a sharp looking GSD and you can tell he was a great dog and friend to you just by his facial expression. I am sure he will be sorely missed.

I had a shetland sheepdog growing up that got hit out front of the house, I'll never forget that day. Had to do a lot of growing up right there on the spot. I have also owned an akita for 13 years and when she passed on I lost interest in owning another. I miss the companionship but it's just too hard on me when they have to check out.

How you feeling today Gary. hope your feeling better. Having been through that just about a year and a half ago, all I can tell you is you'll feel better eventually. I lost my lab to cancer, she was 11 and it hit her at the beginning of Nov. and I had to put her down the first of Dec. It took her very fast. Broke my heart, but hang in there, you will feel better. Now we have two shih tzu's and there my buddies. Stan is our male and he hangs out with me in the shop every chance he get's, he loves it. In fact as I sit here writing this he's laying under my chair, lol. Noel is our female she's only 6 months old I got her for my wife for Xmas, seems she's takin a shine to me to, follows me where ever I go. If I leave she'll lay down against the door and wait for me to come back. Got to love those dogs. Anyway take care and I hope you and your family are feeling better soon.

Man, I'm so sorry! My favorite dog was killed by step uncle with a kick to the chest with a steel toed boot. It does really suck when your pet gets killed they are like children for some of us. You will be in my thoughts

No it's not "just a dog", they become part of the family. I've had dogs most of my life as pets and hunting dogs so I know the pain of loosing them also. Sorry to hear the sad news. That is a great picture, I wish I had one that good of my all time favorite walker hound "Lady". Keep it on the wall in the shop and over time it will go from bringing grief to bringing joy with great memories.

I went as far as keeping the collar from Lady and hanging it on the wall in my shop and every once in a while I look at it and remember some of the great hunts/times we had. This was 10 years ago and haven't forgot.

I guess I was still in somewhat denial... I called the state road to see if they had any pickups of animals, and yes they did... the girl let me talk to the guy who went after him and he described Joey. At least he wasn't mutilated, he figures he probably got clipped by a large truck or something. He doesn't figure there is anyway anyone would try to hit a dog that large on purpose.

Joey was somewhat "different" as far as dogs go. I still have 3 more, but Joey was the only one who cared about playing with toys even when you weren't throwing him something, he liked to push stuff around with that nose of his too.

It's hard... I haven't told my oldest son yet. He's had two hampsters that haven't made it long and there wasn't much explaining, but he's known Joey his entire life and I just haven't quite figured out how to bring it up, he keeps wanting to go looking every night and doesn't know why we haven't tonight.... I guess it's somewhat funny, but I've never really lost anyone in my life yet. God blessed me with great grandparents till I was 15 and I still have my grandparents on each side, still in good health, but they are getting older and starting to go down some. So I've never had to experience anything like that yet, so even when it comes to explaining "all dogs go to heaven" I dunno....

I'll miss you Joey!! 2004-2011.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
