Yep some of the lucky first few 782's that CCC built got the left over CI rear's and front axles. Mine is one of those. It is CCC built with CI IH rear and front axle.

I'm pretty sure my 782 gas is a 1980 model so I'm guessing it is IH? It had a Kohler KT17 in it and I replaced it with a M18 Kohler which purrs real nice.

If you want to go deeper, there are two styles of cast rearends. There is the red cast and there is the black cast. The Red cast had course splined axles while the black cast has fine splined axles. Even though it has fine splined axles, the carrier isn't as strong as the one found in the aluminum rears.

Didn't all CCC Cubs retain the same CI front axles through the 82 series. Both my 882 and 1211 have CI front axles.

Yes, they did, but if you're really anal about correctness, the IH ones are red, CCC ones are black, and there's probably a few really early CCC ones that are IH-made axles painted black. The IH-made axle would have IH numbers cast into it, and the CCC ones would have a CCC casting number. Some things like the gas tank made it really far with an IH number...my 1987 1872 has an IH gas tank...

Any yellow 982 before serial #720,000 has an iron rear as has been already mentioned. If it's yellow, it's not IH, it's CCC-built. It's possible there was a factory oops and IH decals were put on it. I have seen yellow tractor decals on a red one, and vice versa. That seems to have happened more often than you'd think.

I think what Matt is saying is that it can be yellow/white yet still have the ih decals on it that would normally go on the red ones. I've seen a few pics. They look pretty cool. With that said, if an 82 series is yellow/white from the factory no matter what decals are on it, I'm pretty sure it was built when CCC took over.

That's exactly what I meant. I suspect they'd run out of decals once in awhile, and use some from the other line to keep things moving until they were replenished.
Ray must have forgotten about the yellow 782D he posted pics of on another forum. It's was the same as you are talking about....yellow and white tractor with the red tractor's decals. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
