I forgot to add that I've checked them and greased them already. They were in great shape. Looks like half of the works was done right and the other half was welded.

Ever get that feeling that your forgeting something? Well about 2am I went into the garage digging thru my piles of parts and I found another 3 pin driver! Whee! I got two spare motors last fall and forgot that one had a 3 pin driver on it. I moved the motors to a friends house so I wouldn't have to trip over them but I took the 3 pin driver off the motor and put it on the shelf next to the other spare parts! I've only seen a handful of 3 pin drivers and this one is the best shape. I'll get some pics and post them later. Right now I'm feeling pretty happy that I saved some $$ and can get this clutch rebuilt and reinstalled today.

Duke - it looks as if everyone has you going in the right direction! That ball does go in the flex joint at rear of drive shaft.

Looks like P O got his balls in a bunch or lost his marbles or .....

I'm gonna have to do my 1200 clutch soon, appreciate the pics.... I have a spring that is broken and the throwout bearing is noisy or squeals....If it was a MTD it would a been dead years ago..

Are you getting the plates resurfaced or new ones??

Duke- I do hope you put that ball in the rag joint coupling! It transfers the clutch spring load to the transmission input shaft when you push the clutch pedal. Without that ball, the rag joint carries the load, but will let the shaft push back before your clutch disengages. I bet that rag joint is trashed, and could even have helped the 3 pin plate failure.

Sounds like you need a teaser spring and throw out bearing. Unless the large spring broken. I'm going to have the plates refaced.

I'll be putting the ball back in there! Rag joint is in good shape.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
