I got the carb. kit from the local supplier who had it in stock for $13.50. My mechanic friend helped me install the kit, adjusted the carb. and got it running great.
However, the next day, I ran the tractor a little and the float must have stuck again because it pours gas out the air cleaner cover as soon as I turn the valve on. We cleaned it very good, and my tank, filter, lines, bowl etc, are all clean. I'm wondering if the black flexible "baffle" could be hanging the float up some how. Does anyone know if it's advisable to do away with the baffle? We're going to try to adjust the float in a day or two, but other than that or the baffle, I dont know what it could be. Any ideas appreciated. Josh P |

Maybe you could take the float bowl off and leave the rest of the carb on. Hold the float up and turn the gas on. See if the needle is leaking or not. Let it down and up a few times. If that works then you know the float must be out of adjustment or catching on something. I assume the float comes new with the kit? If not, maybe there is a pin hole in it and is full of gas.

The float doesnt come with the kit, but mine was in good shape and didn't have any gas in it.

I'm betting you have some junk between the valve and inlet not letting the valve seat completely when the bowl is full allowing the fuel to continue to flow. Some compressed air thru all the ports would help. Did your buddy soak the carb in carb cleaner for a few hours or just throw the kit on and go?

Man, all i can say is that i love this site. im having the same problem with my 100. i just rebuilt the carb last winter, (sub 32 degree when it started leaking) and now it is leaking again sporadically. when i tap on the bowel it seems to fix it. i was thinking it was some dirt at the float pin. ill definately be keeping up on this thread.

We didn't soak it, but we used a good spray cleaner and compressed air. And the carb was not visibly gummed up or dirty,, had not been sitting with gummed up gas, etc. He is a good mechanic, has owned his own auto shop, and has maintained a fleet of golf course equip for many years, as well as built and tuned Harley engines.
We're going to try adjusting the float while the carb is still attached. Does anyone know anything about that baffle? That thing just looks like it could interfere. JP |

I have rebuild 20+ carbs and I have never had a problem with the baffle gasket interfering. If it is, you may have it installed incorrectly.

When I got my 129 my float was stuck and all I had to do was take the bowl off and move the float up and down to work it loose and it worked for me.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
