Here are a couple pics of the tractor. I had to hurry up an unload it before my wife got home. I also posted a picture of the carb/governor and wanted to know if everything looks right. The guy said he rebuilt the carb but then he also told me he is not a "tractor guy". I am hoping the problem I am having is not the internal governor. When I start it it wants to race out of control unless I throttle it all the way down. Is there any way I can rule out the internal part of the governor being the problem? Or, any way to tell that it is the problem? This m-18 is new to me so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Earl

Wow, looks nice. Stickers are even good on the hood!

Im not real familiar with the m18 either. I have been lucky with no problems with mine so far. Just out of curiosity does it look like he messed with the governor control arm where it tightens up on the shaft of the governor? If that is not tighten in the right spot it might do that something like your saying. Its been a while since I messed with those but I think if its to far one way it would? Maybe someone else who know them better can give you a better idea. I would also check around for anything hitting the controls linkages and make sure there not binding. Sure is a nice super though! Good luck with getting it running better.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds like you have internal issues. Drain the oil and see if it has any metal in it.

"Hurry up and unload it before the wife gets home".....I've done that a few times. I'm thinking like AJ. My 1541 was doing the same thing and it is an internal problem. You still got a super sweet deal on that tractor. Good luck with it

Rolland Im glad you called the cops, cause he STOLE that tractor!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In your pic where the air cleaner is off, take and try to set the gov. Basicly if the gov post turns all the way around then you have a problem, DONT RUN IT TOO MUCH. If it swings one way and stops this is the way its sposta work, BUT DOSNT MEAN its still not bent or something inside.

Keep us posted !

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
