AJ: The term might be better understood if the whole term found in the Hillman catalog is used: "thrust bushing" . The pressure is supposed to be on the flat sides. That is why it kinda looks like a washer. For the Kohler carb fix, we don't use it as a "thrust bushing", but work it does.

For all this talk about the Hillman Bushing, washer or whatever you want to call it, I have yet to see a picture of it.

Myron, how about posting a picture of it....????

That along with a choke shaft repair are in the Kohler service manual.

I saw a washer repair @ cubfaq. I thought that was the washer in question.

How's this?? You'll notice that they are just about the same...The Hillman thrust bushings are just a bit thinner than their Kohler cousins....

The throttle shaft bushing is one fix that is super easy, and a big bang for the buck. I'm not sure what it cost to purchase the bushing as I made my own, but it's so simple top tap the bushing in, and it really smooths up the throttle shaft while taking out any play, and will also prevent (or help) wearing out the aluminum carb body. One thing I didn't have a clue when doing my first one.. I thought the ones I done just fell out, however they did not come in the carb originally.

If I had enough stock to make several i would have turned out 15 or 20 while set up to send out to those who can't find them local like I me... I checked everywhere local to me with no luck.... I think I read somewhere that someone also used a plastic, or graphite washer/bushing that also works great. I have worked with small press in graphite bushings, I would probably prefer bronze in the case, but the graphite would have some outstanding properties for this application.

I used some aluminum and made a bushing for mine. That way when it wears away I can replace it and still won't have any chance for the throttle shaft to wear.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
