I spread a truck load of sand on my lawn with my FEMLL, (front end Mother in law loader) and after a few adjustments it worked just like a FEL. It cannot lift over about 10 inches off of the ground but the dumping and then smoothing out of the sand with the bucket on the ground works just like a FEL. I finally got the lift hooked up to my hydro on the 1811 but the dump is still mechanical. I think it will work for snow if we ever get any more down here in Ga. I sold my 44 inch front blade to a nice guy from SC. He has an 1810 and I let him drive my 1811 with the power steering and he fell in love. Anyway just wanted to let you guys know if you ever see one of these things get it if the price is right. They are very usable and work pretty well.

What was your final decision regarding welding/not welding the front frame plate? I have noticed the exact same thing on my 1862 and I think when I do a restoration later this yeat that is one thing which will definitely get welded. |

Pokey, I didn't weld it completely but I did add several welds to the ones that were there. I couldn't believe the small welds that were from the factory. The welds were essentially just to hold the front plate on and didn't seem to offer any strength to the frame or add rigidity to it. If I had built it I would have made the plate 1/4 inch steel to act as a bumper and to offer a stronger place to add accessories later. I understand the philosophy about making things affordable though and a manufacturer cannot add everything and keep the cost down. Using my new FEL with over three hundred pounds of wet sand in it made me aware that without power steering it would be a bear to operate. I would like to know what the cost to the manufacturer is for a power steering system? A lot of the new cars are using electrical power steering and I wonder if it is adaptable to our mowers from a salvage yard.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
