M18 Starter on 1811
This 1811 I picked up is making my grey hair turn white.
Now the starter is spinning but not engaging with the flywheel. I've read a couple of threads. What I need is a photo of the starter installed on a M18. Does anyone have one or know of a link that shows one? I read that you can pull the left engine shroud and work with a long screwdriver to move the starter drive and clean it. Do you have to remove the engine to take the starter off? I'm not sure where this starter bolts to the block. Is it behind the flywheel? Cub Cadet manual says to clean and lube the drive annually, I can't believe you would have to remove the engine and flywheel to do this every year. If it's just a matter of the shroud being in the way, I could cut a hole in it and make a plate to go back over the hole after servicing the starter. I did this for the ignition pickup on another M18 and it worked great and looks like it was built that way. Thanks

It's easy to pull the engine. I pull the blower cover and clean the mice and leaves and dirt around the cylinder walls while I"m at it. I've tried to get the starter out without pulling the engine but I get aggravated and pull it anyway.
