Looks great. I'd really be interested to see how that POR stuff holds up, I've heard great things about it.

And of course we all know the tequila countdown:

1 tequila, 2 tequila, 3 tequila, floor.

Hey 123Pokey...........the guys I work with do not follow the instructions with that POR stuff and still have had outstanding results. The one guy that I work with is a farmer and uses it on everything and just wire brushes it and that's it.

Also.......it was actually a mixture of ice tea and tequila..........LOL

Default Got the deck back together today

Well, got the deck all back together today and running just great.
I also installed a brand new set of Gator Blades on it.
Had a little trouble getting the idler pulley back to the way that it should be. Seemed like the alignment was off a little but I shimmed it up with some custom made washers and it worked much better. The junk cans of parts of washers, bolts etc. really paid off for this project. I had to chase all of the threads with a die, lubricate all of threads etc.
And of course, Jose Cuervo was there with me for the test cuts.
Looks like I need to level the deck just a little. This tractor does not have any kind of mowing height indication that is a real pain as you can't judge how high or low you are setting the mowing height.

Yeah, it needs quite a bit of adjustment. The front of the deck is pointing up, and it needs to be slightly lower than the back end.

Yeah, thanks Matt....I only noticed that after I looked at the picture.
Gonna try and level it out tonight by raising the rear deck hangers. I want it to be as high as possible because like I said above, there is no good way to set the cutting height consistently on this so I am going to have to come up with a way.

Part No. 3 is the original design for the deck height adjustment. I wouldn't think that adjusting the back hangers would level out your deck; you need to adjust the front hangers.

Not to mention that the rear hangers aren't adjustable.

BIGMOZEKE-

How high are you needing it? IIRC, the deck goes up to almost 6" on my 1872. If it doesn't go somewhere around that high, something might not be right with your rockshaft or the way you have everything connected.

Got it all squared away tonight. Lowered the front hangers ONLY and it leveled right out and cuts much better...........of course. When I put something on the post about the rear hangers, I was actually referring to the threaded middle hanger and only one side is somewhat adjustable, but all of that looks just fine and I didn't mess with it at all.

Also, thanks to Madddog for pointing out the obvious on the adjustment knob. Worked with that and figured out how to adjust the cutting height on this beast. Need to research and see if there is a label that is supposed to go on there. A stamped plate would be much better though.

Thanks Guys.

How do you like the Gators? I put a set on mine and absolutly love them.

As far as the height indicator, aren't the 982s like the 2072s? My 2072 had a pin that stuck up through a slot in the tunnel cover to indicate where the lift was.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
