I have seen other #2's without stake pockets, as there is one in this link: http://www.freewebs.com/kaufmancadets/attachments.htm

Now, I do see what you see about being "Thinner"...But that could be anything from an illusion to a factory mistake (you will find, that not all #2's are identical). Point being, IH made the frame/tongue..And bought the bed. So, if it has the same frame/tongue for the most part..It is indeed, made by IH.

Hi All
I personally think that it resembles a number 2 but, it appears to have in the photo a lower rear corner welded on at what appears to be a 45 degree angle. Could just appear that way but I see it on the near side also.
Just my two cents

Take care
Mike

Are these "lines" of some sort what you are seeing?

I noticed those earlier, also.

Yes
Those are the lines. I think simplicity/allis chalmers had a cart very similar too that without fenders. Look it up and see what you think. It also appears too have a little too much distance from the top of the fender to the lip on top.
I have two number twos, and they are identical in everyway. I believe the one we are discussing has been made to resemble a number two. Either way what difference does it make if you want it buy it. I think it's pretty cool.

Take care
Mike

I thought it was a #2 at first but it looks like the sides are taller on the yellow one that on the #2. Could be my eyes tho.

Also look at the hitch. They are completely different. Back then, there were a lot of carts built that looked like one anther. I have a cart that looks identical to a #3 cart only with fenders. I know it's not a IH cart. The guy I got it from told me he's sure that it's a sears. So just because it resembles a IH cart, doesn't mean that it is.

Everyone has great comments. Needless to say, it is a nice cart. I would have to agree with the naysayers that it is not a number 2 IH cart. Still in great shape. Congrats on finding it. Looks like some of the weaknesses have been addressed, hitch, latch, etc. Thanks for sharing the pics! If I had the opportunity to buy it, I would in a heartbeat.

WOOOOOO HOO!
Did I poke the nest with a stick or what? Well I got home from work and post haste lifted it up in the day light. It definitely ain't a #2, and I definitely don't care. Lol
cuz III LLLLIKE IT! It is very sturdy, and yes I can see where some previous owner has "un-bobed" the tail end. The hubs are wicked strong and as noted earlier brand new tires and tubes. Alls I'll have to do is make a gate and freshen the paint.
I caused such a discussion.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
