Default Low-Tech Restore of 1440 Complete

Thanks IAfarmer!

cub 149 - Cubs get top dollar up here - even scrambled units go $600-$900 and you don't often see the old ones (pre-1997) or classics (pre-MTD) come up for sale often. When you do, many times they've been restored already...and that's no fun.

I'd love to attempt a 482/582/682 but they're never available...at least in the three years that I've been looking up here. I wouldn't even fathom what the market value on "project units" is up here but definitely in the ozone ($2500+?).

Sounds like you need to take a Cub rescue road trip to Ohio!

Your 1440 looks awesome.
I still have mine that I bought brand new. It's been a great machine and as you eluded to, I'm not sure you could ever wear one out. Since I bought it new I'll probably keep it forever and then my son can have it and the other 6 I have.
Great job.

The 1440 resto work really looks nice as others have mentioned.
Great shots too! Enjoy your work and the tractor!
Regards,
Chris

rwairforce & GDahmes:

Looks like I'm in good company! How does the 1440 differ between 92-97? What years do you have? I noticed that some models have a black transmission tunnel. Why?

Methos:

I'd love a 1864 but have never seen one available locally!

Thanks Sugarmaker!

You could come to my local and see one. This was my wifes uncle Gene's 1864 that after 19 years I was able to buy off him this past spring.

Mine is a 1993. I do not really know the differences between the years. I have only dealt with mine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
