After spending hours on a 128 in the late 90's, and owning a 125 for two years, I'll say that now that I've had my 149 for almost a year it is hands down the best one of them all. You really lucked out with that machine.

Thanks for the welcome Diz Jr.
I can tell this 149 is already better than the other second hand tractors I have had (john deer, ariens, mtd) even though the 149 is older than any of them. It runs strong and feels hardy. I can't wait to put to good use.

Thanks Steve. I can't believe my good luck snagging this 149 (even tho I had to suffer the wrath of the wife for bringing home yet another "project"

Now that you have the 149 you can get rid of any other tractors.

Thanks Duke! The PTO has been interesting. I did get it apart but more my accident...I took the PTO over to my neighbor and partner in "fix it " to show him and dropped it on his garage floor (I do tend to have butter fingers). The clutch disk cracked in about 3 places. It did decide the way forward though which was to take it apart rather then try to work it if free somehow. In the end it saved me time cuz it became obvious it wasn't going to free up. The clutch disk was well seized and actually ate into the pulley and clutch plate pitting them both badly. I cleaned and evened up the pulley and plate surfaces by placing the piece on my welding table and using a 4 1/2 grinding disk -by hand not in a grinder- worked the surface until it was clean and even. Hope to get a new clutch disk and the PTO alignment tool soon to put it back together and on the 149.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
