Got any JD dealers near you? Buy Hy-Guard. Same thing as Hy-Tran.

OK for me Hy-Tran is good stuff. Is it worth the $$$ no. I change my oil and filter every year. We are talking maybe 50 hour of run time. I used to run a concrete operation and we used Mobile 1310 in our Sundstrand pumps and got 20,000 hours out of them but we changed the oil and filters every year. Hy-Tran is worth it if you are going to neglect servicing your stuff. Not many of us on this forum do that. Just my 2 cents.

I am pretty OCD about service, I do my oil annually and plan on also doing my hydro at least every other year (my cubs don't do much work, they really have an easy life) MAYBE 20 hours a year.... and that has to be a year with ALOT of snow since both of my mower decks make alot of noise and dont use them.
Thank you for your input!

Well, I consider the fact that he's got a high clientel of farmers in a 100 mile radius easy that personally ask for him when they need something repaired, call him up at home on his days off because they don't trust just anyone working on his stuff, AND I've seen first hand for 28 years the success he's had because he knows what he's talking about, but blah blah blah I'm not going to use his advice when it comes to a 40 year old Cub Cadet.

I use the HyTran spec fluid from Tractor Supply. Usually get a 5 gallon bucket for $35-$40 when it's on sale. I've not had any issues. I'll agree that if you are using your machine daily or in a commercial environment, it makes sense to use HyTran for the properties that Matt stated, but for the homeowner usage and maintenance the 'Generic' stuff does fine. My mid-80's 1862 is still going strong (knock on wood!) and I haven't seen any negative effects when I open her up for a change or in operation.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
