We're on the same page then.
I'm new to small engines...just making sure there's no real diff in building one...other than you say always replace the piston, AND rod. This is new to me. I ALWAYS resize my rods, and use ARP rod bolts (car engines)....unless I'm blueprinting, then I'll use two sets and resize to get matching and correct length rods. Did you say you always replace the crank too?

OK I found a piston, rod and rings all for under $100! I looked @ WH and found a Co. selling complete kits for kohler engines, not only does it come w/that stuff but it also has all the gaskets and a free tune up kit. Whoooohooooo. I now have everything comming to complete this tractor. Or so I think.
Thanks, Mouse

Good for you.
A small engine can't be all that difficult to rebuild...it's only 1 cyl., and there's no lifters, timing chain, etc. I can't wait to rebuild the 12hp for my 124. Don't have another tractor to use, and my son won't move the stove wood with a wheelbarrow. So it's gonna wait until spring atleast.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
