My favorite is my 147; it's the 1st cub I bought on my own and strikingly similar yet subtle differences to Dad's 125. His is a second close favorite since I've operated it ever since Dad allowed me to. (not sure of age.) Lots of fond memories of the 125 that I often re live on the 147. I like the blue that's in the 1X4/5 series but the rear fender pan of a 1X6/7 series.

I like the 147's. That's one of the few models that I know what it is without looking it up, lol

What exactly is a "Super"? What is so super about them? When were they made?
Supers are larger than the GT’s, longer frame, bigger front axle, bigger tires, lower gearing. They were made for ground engaging work. Some have rear PTO’s and cat 0 3 point hitch. First Supers were the 982’s in 1980 and the last were the 2284’s and 2086’s in 1997 according to the info I have. This is a list of the Super’s and what engine they came with.

A CC Super Garden Tractor (SGT) has the following features:

* 20 HP or more
* Longer Frame
* Dual brake pedals
* Larger tires - front & rear
* Rear Elec PTO (optional)
* Cat 0 hitch system (optional)

IH's first SGT was made in 1979, and it was the 982

Not sure there is a “Best Cub” but if it wasn’t for the O we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

Not sure about the 982 being made in 79, my info says 80 and I think I got the info from you. Could be wrong.

The information I listed, is considered "general information" CCC made variations from the original intent. There is a story why the 982 was listed as 19.9 HP instead of 20.

The 82 Series Cubs were introduced in Sep of 1979. They may have been considered 1980 models, as long the lines of the auto industry.

I'd love to hear the story about the 19.9 sometime. The 79/80 thing makes sense.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
