Did a little bird dogging and I found the pin that moves the speed control cam is almost worn through on the bottom side. When the lever is moved forward the cam speed plate rides on the unworn portion of the pin then drops into the worn groove and that is were I'm getting the added speed. Looks like we will be doing a tear down sometime in the near future. Break out the mig welder fill the worn area in and grind back smooth. Should be good for another 30 years.

Well the old girl is going back together. Let you guys know tomorrow night how she works. Sam sorry about the lack of pics I'm just a slacker at heart ya know. I found 3 major problems with the hydro. 1 The pin that runs the cam plate was almost worn through. 2 The hole on the cam plate was worn so bad I could almost pull it off of the trunnion springs and pins. 3 One of the trunnion spring pin heads was broken in half.Thank ful for having an adequite supply of spare parts. Got to adjust neutral position and put the sheet metal back on and we are ready for a road test. In the process of fixing all this business I repaired 4 spare hydro dump valves. All know leakers. Checked them out on the 1572 and all 4 worked flawless.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
